When you get the urge for a snack on a hot, humid summer night, what's the first thing that comes to your mind? That's right....Ice Cream! Therefore, it's only fitting that ice cream be given it's own special day (the 3rd Sunday in July). On this day, we hope you enjoy an ice cream cone, a sundae, or a milk shake. Set the diet aside and splurge a little...have one of each! In 1984, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed July as National Ice Cream Month. He also established National Ice Cream Day as the third Sunday in the month. Ice cream is nutritious. A little heavy on the sugar and calories, ice cream is otherwise good for you. Its base ingredient is milk, which is loaded with healthy vitamins and minerals. So enjoy, and have a happy National Ice Cream Day! 😊

It's not just your ordinary Hump Day, it's Independence Day! The holiday commemorates the event which established our Nation, the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This document, signed 242 years ago, established a new republic, inscribing a foundation of unalienable rights: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. While you celebrate this day with family and friends, take a moment to remember our fellow service members standing watch around the world on our behalf. Have a happy, safe and relaxing Fourth of July, and enjoy the rest of your week!

The Caribbean American Heritage Month commemoration was adopted by the U.S. House of Representatives in 2005 to recognize the significance of Caribbean people and their descendants in the history and culture of the United States. Caribbean immigrants have been contributing to the well-being of American society since its founding. Alexander Hamilton, the First Secretary of the Treasury was from the Caribbean island of Nevis. Other famous Caribbean Americans include Secretary of State Colin Powell, Cicely Tyson; W.E.B Dubois, James Weldon Johnson, Harry Belafonte and Sidney Poitier to name a few. As we wrap up this month and this observance, we celebrate the diversity of the Total Force. We honor all who have answered the call to serve, and their unwavering commitment to our shared mission. From those serving in uniform to civilians and family members, we honor them for their contributions in making the Department of Defense the strongest fighting force in the world!
National PTSD Awareness Day is celebrated annually on June 27. It aims to raise awareness of posttraumatic stress disorder, a mental health problem that may develop after a person has been exposed to one or more traumatic events. Traumatic events that may cause PTSD include physical or sexual assault, war-related combat stress, terrorism, natural or man-made disasters, and other threats on a person’s life. Remember, not all scars are visible.
In 1975, decorated Vietnam War veteran Tech. Sgt. Leonard Matlovich became the Department of Defense’s first gay rights activist when he fought the ban on gays serving in the military after he was discharged from service. Our nation has always benefitted from the service of gay and lesbian service members. Now they can serve openly, with full honor, integrity and respect. This makes our country and our nation stronger. As we wrap up Pride Month this week, we acknowledge that our all-volunteer force is stronger due to the diversity and culture of inclusion celebrated during observance months.
During Caribbean-American Heritage Month, we honor America’s long-shared history with our neighbors in the Caribbean and celebrate the Caribbean Americans who have enriched our Nation. This month, we acknowledge the numerous contributions of Caribbean Americans to our Nation, including those of the more than 4 million Caribbean Americans who live in the United States today, and the many Caribbean Americans who have served or are currently serving our country as members of our Armed Forces.
Happy Father's Day!

Happy Birthday to our brothers and sisters in the U.S. Army!
Tomorrow is Flag Day, a day to respect the flag and reflect on its meaning. The flag flies over the United States to remind us that we are one nation, a nation under God; to remind us that we are a nation that is indivisible; and to remind us each day of those who fought to protect all who live within this nation. Take a moment to marvel at the beauty of Old Glory, and all that it stands for. Happy Flag Day, everyone!
It's Men's Helath Week! Whether it is your friend, brother, dad, boyfriend, spouse, or boss, show them you care about them and their health by wearing blue this Friday, June 15th. Men’s health awareness can mean many different things. It means raising awareness of making healthy lifestyle choices, making regular annual visits to the doctor, getting educated on heart disease or diabetes, starting general health conversations with their male friends, and much more. To learn more, visit the Men’s Health Network website. Men’s Health Network is a national non-profit organization whose mission is to reach men and their families with health awareness messages where they live, work, pray, and play.
June is Men's Health Month, and the aim is to bring awareness to the challenges men face in life to build a stronger tomorrow. Men on average have shorter life spans than women, while women are more likely to visit their doctor regularly. Let’s get the ball rolling all month long and there after! See how you can support #MensHealthMonth and the #ShowUsYourBlue Campaign by visiting the website.
D-Day is the World War II military operation which took place on June 6, 1944. It was code-named Operation Neptune, presumably because it involved a water landing by the Allies on the beaches of Normandy, France. It is the largest military operation by sea in history, and of course it had great significance to the war. D-Day was very important as it marked the first time in the war that Allied troops threatened Germany's control of Europe. The successful invasion of Normandy opened up the western front to the Allies, and it essentially became the gate way into Nazi occupied Europe. If D-day would have not taken place the outcome of the war would probably have been very different, Hitler would still have been in control of the western front and the would have concentrated on defeating USSR with all his force not worrying about an attack from the western front.
June is PTSD Awareness Month. Help raise awareness of PTSD and its effective treatments by sharing this post! To discover ways to connect and share, visit the National Center for PTSD website:
The Defense Department observes June as LGBT Pride Month to recognize DoD's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender service members and civilians. During Pride Month, we celebrate those in the LGBT community whose struggles, sacrifices, and successes have and continue to shape the history of our nation and remind each of us to stand for tolerance, justice, and dignity.
