  • Alcohol and Driving: Why it’s Not Safe to Drink and Drive

During the holidays there always seems to be a renewed focus on preventing drunk driving…this year is no different. In 2018, 10,511 American lives were lost due to drunk driving. In 2019, New Mexico recorded 107 drunk driving fatalities (5th highest in the nation). Deaths from drunk driving are especially tragic, as such deaths are 100% preventable.
  • A lesson on leadership

Leadership in the midst of a global pandemic is hard.
  • 'Tis the season ... Happy Holidays!

‘Tis the season for the three Rs.No, I’m not talking about reading, ‘riting and ‘rithmatic. I’m talking about the need to refill, rejuvenate, and reconnect. With all that 2020 threw our way, it’s understandable that we’re tired, worn out and frustrated. That’s why - this year in particular - it’s even more important than ever to take some time over
  • What Is Sucess?

What does success look like for you as an individual? For an Airman, I believe success is a personal story and probably can’t be described in one sentence. It may or may not necessarily be tied to the salary you receive from your job. Are you striving to own a business, finishing training or education, or raising a family? When you put on the cloth of our nation-- OCP’s, flight suit, blues or PT gear-- does that definition of success change? I would hope that it includes our core values: Integrity first, service before self (but not at the expense of your health and wellness) and excellence in all we do. When you self-reflect about your day, what makes it a successful day? I learn something new all the time with room for improvements. Don’t underestimate the role you play in shaping other’s success. Your actions and non-actions are important every single day

Yet one conversation stuck with me and likely will for life.He had a

  • The Empowerment Imperative

In one of those right place at the right time moments, I was in the EUCOM Operations Center in April 2018 to witness the launch of a combined US and Allied missile strike on Syria in response to a Syrian chemical weapons attack on civilians.  From this vantage point, I witnessed an awe-inspiring collaboration of teams and commands from across the
  • The Benefits of Gratitude

With Thanksgiving almost upon us, we will take time to reflect on what we are thankful for. The benefits of this simple act can offer benefits throughout the year. For decades, researchers have studied the effects of thankfulness on psychological health, physical health, and relationships and found there to be substantial benefits. According to Robert Emmons, a leading expert on gratitude, individuals that habitually practice gratitude report numerous benefits.
  • Feeling grateful: My cancer survival story

Cancer is scary, treatment is chilling and nothing about cancer is fun. Every November is Men’s Health Awareness Month, but this “Movember,” it hit so much closer to home.
  • Using gratitude to combat the 2020 attitude

This time last year we did not know. We gathered with friends and family for a feast in the name of thankfulness without awareness of what 2020 would have in store. What did 2020 usher? For starters, hardship, isolation and the beloved face mask! Who would have guessed we would have toilet paper shortages, restricted travel, and two-meter distancing? For most, 2020 meant canceling vacations and temporarily separating from friends; for others, 2020 brought grief over loved ones’ sicknesses or even death from COVID-19. But 2020 gave us more than loss, fear and anxiety. We were given a rare opportunity. We were forced to whittle away excess, to sit in isolation, and to focus on that which remained.
