Gladiators of the Grid

In an era when global influence and national defense are contingent on cyberspace dominance, one organization stands unparalleled in readiness and scope: the 960th Cyberspace Wing, the only cyberspace wing within the Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC).   As America’s Dynamic Cyberspace Wing, it is the only cyberspace wing in the Air Force that offers full-spectrum cyber and warfighter communications capabilities under one command umbrella including Defensive Cyber-Operations (DCO), Offensive Cyber-Operations (OCO), Department of Defense Information Network (DoDIN) operations, Command and Control (C2), and Expeditionary Communications. With ongoing operations at 11 geographic locations across the continental United States, the 960th retains the best of the best from all over the nation.

Known as the Gladiators of the Grid, the 960th adds irreplaceable expertise and agility—brought by Citizen Airmen who blend civilian industry experience with military discipline—to support joint and active-duty partners in the cyber battlefield.  As Reservists, members of the 960th often balance civilian careers in technology, communications, and cybersecurity with their military service. This dual experience delivers valuable industry knowledge to military operations while the military environment provides Citizen Airmen with advanced training and leadership opportunities rarely found in the civilian sector. The result is a workforce that blends adaptability, technical expertise, and operational readiness.

By uniting cyber expertise, operational experience, and Reserve flexibility, the 960th Cyberspace Wing demonstrates how specialized Reserve units expand the Air Force’s ability to operate in domains that demand constant innovation and vigilance.  The wing works in close coordination with Sixteenth Air Force (Air Forces Cyber) and U.S. Cyber Command, serving as an operational partner in joint cyber missions. Through this integration, the 960th supports active-duty counterparts while maintaining the flexibility to scale and surge Reserve forces when needed.

Overall, the 960th Cyberspace Wing plays a critical role in protecting and advancing the Department of Defense’s cyber enterprise. Its combination of cyber operations, warfighter communications capabilities, and command-and-control functions make it a unique contributor to national defense and an essential part of the Air Force’s ability to operate in cyberspace.
