  • Women in test history

Women’s history month plays an important part in the highlighting achievements that may have been buried throughout history. Just as they have in other fields, women pioneers have played a major role in the aerospace field, particularly at Edwards Air Force Base, California.
  • Making a difference for those who may be struggling in silence

Every year we as military members receive mandatory sexual harassment and assault briefings. It can feel repetitive, and it can often leave us asking “Where are we going with this?”
  • A Letter to my Daughters: Look Out and Within, Not Up

Recently, I heard someone talking about Diversity and Inclusion, a topic I am extremely passionate about. This person made reference to looking up at the wall of leadership pictures and not seeing someone who looks like them.  They suggested that since nobody looks like them in the C-suite, that it sends the message that they can’t survive and are not welcome in a leadership position in their company. While I acknowledge that this phenomenon does exist and nearly drove me to leave the Air Force at one point myself, I have a different message for you.  My future Airman and Guardian: stop looking up.  Instead, look out and within.
  • Diversity, inclusion are tools for national defense, not buzzwords

We live in a dynamically changing and increasingly complex global security environment. In order to maintain ourselves as the world’s leading Air Force, we must continue to adapt and prepare for any potential contingencies—in today’s highly competitive environment. While present and future decisions on weapons systems, force posture and force
  • Anytime is a good time for tea

Having tea can mean sharing joy and sorrow, solving familial or business problems, or simply being present and experiencing life completely. Although a seemingly simple act, sharing a cup of tea is anything but. It is intentionally taking the time to connect and address something important.
  • Resilience tips for managing life’s transitions, integrations

As military members, we are expected to deploy and possibly relocate in many different environments to ensure organizational objectives and mission requirements are met.  As such, we will most certainly be exposed to different cultures that could result in a positive, negative, or challenging experience.  So, how can we ensure a positive transition and integration experience when challenged with environmental and cultural paradigm shifts?
  • My thoughts on Black History Month

When it comes to Black History Month, I suppose that I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I love that we are taking time as a nation to celebrate the contributions and historical impact of Black people. Amazingly, during this month, people learn about all the great Black figures who helped shape the world we live in. As a child, I always loved reciting speeches written by Dr. Martin Luther King, Sojourner Truth, and other great Black Americans. I reveled in the fact that some of my favorite things were invented by people who looked like me.
  • Rethinking how we lead

While there are many theories on leadership, it is inherently up to each individual to determine how they will lead. I used this as motivation to read multiple leadership books leading up to my Change of Command to prepare myself for what was to come. Knowing that I was leaving a staff position with senior leaders to lead first term Airman, I felt it was important to understand what their values and concerns were. What I was not prepared for is how different today’s Airmen are from my expectations. Today’s Airmen are highly educated, diverse and independent thinkers.
  • To hell with “it”

Have you had a life altering moment? Not like dodging a car accident that made your heart skip a few beats. I’m talking about a moment where the fundamentals of who you are become questioned.
  • Is it usable?

We know the universal question of what systems win battles and what makes us boil. Is it usable?
