Week 3 (Sept. 13-19): Prepare for Disasters

Since April 1, DeCA’s severe weather preparedness promotional package is offering various items at reduced prices until Oct. 31. A key step of emergency preparedness is to get a kit together that includes the items needed to sustain a person or family for three days. The kit should be inventoried periodically to ensure it’s complete and items are not outdated.

DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del. -- Hurricanes are dangerous and can cause major damage because of storm surge, wind damage and flooding. They can happen along any U.S. coast or in any territory in the Atlantic or Pacific oceans. Storm surge is historically the leading cause of hurricane-related deaths in the United States. Eastern Pacific hurricane season is from May 15 to Nov. 30, and Atlantic hurricane season is from June 1 to Nov. 30.
